gdm Taipei is pleased to present Alison Nguyen: Prosthetic Memory, the artist’s debut solo exhibition, on view from May 7 to July 26, 2025. The exhibition features two speculative fiction works — History as Hypnosis and Corridor 9 — which combine film, installation, and sculpture to reflect Nguyen’s perspective as a Vietnamese American and her observations on historical narratives, mass media, and cultural censorship.
Alison Nguyen (b. 1986) was born into a family shaped by the Vietnam War. The unspoken weight of wartime memory within her family prompted the artist to interrogate the unseen legacies of conflict—particularly the lingering effects of the American military-industrial complex, surveillance technologies, and digital infrastructures.
Coming of age during the digital revolution, Nguyen witnessed the evolution of the internet and the rise of AI. Drawing from her Vietnamese heritage, she critically examines how media technologies regulate and reconfigure collective memory, historical narrative, and cultural identity.
Asia cordially invites you and your guests to join us for the exhibition opening of Alison Nguyen: Prosthetic Memory on Wednesday, May 7, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at gdm. The artist will be present for the event.
