Petah Coyne was born in Oklahoma City in 1953. Currently lives in New York as a photographer and a sculptor. Described as the “queen of mixed media”, Petah Coyne’s elaborate sculptures, characterized by a Baroque sensibility and macabre subject matter, reference an array of subjects and themes including literature, the Southern Gothic, and Christian iconography. Composed of velvet, candles, birdcages, feathers, taxidermy peacocks, among countless other materials. One of the most famous works wax statuary, with special technology, uses materials to make the perfect combination with wax, representing a richly tactile, and occupy a space between the beautiful and the grotesque.
