Hsiao Chin was born in Shanghai in 1935 who immigrated to Taiwan in 1949. In 1952, he joined the studio of Lee Chun-Shan on Antung Street, in Taipei, where he followed the teachings of the master for a few years. In 1956, he actively participated in the foundation of the “Ton Fan” group. During the same year, he received a scholarship to study art in Spain. Despite his remoteness, he remained very active within the group and corresponded regularly with his fellow artists of the “Ton Fan” group. In 1959, he moved to Milan where he founded the “Punto group” and became friends with Lucio Fontana. He left to the US where he lived from 1967 to 1972 and taught painting in various prestigious art schools. In 1973, Hsiao Chin returned to Milan.
