Taipei Dangdai announces the appointment of Robin Peckham, who joins as Co-Director alongside Co-Founder and Co-Director Magnus Renfrew ahead of the second edition of the fair in January 2020.

Taipei Dangdai expands its leadership team to include the long-standing contemporary arts expert Robin Peckham. Peckham will be based in Taipei and his appointment is effective immediately.

Widely recognized as a leading cultural innovator, including accolades such as an inclusion on Apollo Magazine’s 2016 “Thinkers” list, and for his roles as an independent curator and Editor in Chief of LEAP, the bi-lingual international art magazine of contemporary China, Peckham will be closely involved in the curation of the public programming of Taipei Dangdai, joining Renfrew in spearheading the broader development of the fair.

Peckham began his career with Long March Space and then Boers-Li Gallery in Beijing, and over the last fifteen years has honed his skills as a curator, writer, editor, and institutional leader in Greater China. Between 2014 and 2018, Peckham served as Editor-in-Chief of LEAP, the bi-lingual international art magazine of contemporary China. As an independent curator, Peckham has organized internationally recognized exhibitions, most notably “Art Post-Internet,” the first institutional historical survey of that controversial idea, which he co-curated with Karen Archey for Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing in 2014. Other significant exhibitions include “The World in a Grain of Sand: Shapes and Sites for Social Geometries,” organized for the Fosun Foundation in 2018, “Full of Painting and Weirdness: Painting as a Universalism,” produced for M Woods Museum in 2015, as well as “The Shanghai Gesture/ Our Real Your Surreal: Dali and Chinese Contemporary Art,” for K11 Art Foundation in 2015, and “The Burning Edge,” for City University School of Creative Media in 2011. Peckham has also served as a jury-member for the Hugo Boss Asia Art Award in 2015, and he was included on Apollo Magazine’s 2016 “Thinkers” list.

Robin Peckham said “I look forward to working with Magnus, Taipei Dangdai team, our exhibitors, collectors, institutions, and the broader community to make Taipei Dangdai a key meeting place for the international art world and to fulfil its ambition of becoming a leading platform for the exchange of art and ideas”.

Magnus Renfrew added: “We are delighted to welcome Robin to the Taipei Dangdai team. Robin will be well served by his fluency in Mandarin in broadening and deepening our relationships with stakeholders and the cultural community. Robin has a substantial knowledge of the art scenes of Greater China, and Asia more widely, as well as their global context. His editorial, curatorial and art market experience will be invaluable in help us to build a fair that celebrates the cultural production of Asia.”
